Karina del Mar began her musical education after being accepted in Puerto Rico’s San Juan Children Choir (Coro de Niños de San Juan) at the age of 8. In the choir, del Mar learned vocal techniques, music theory, and the importance of discipline and inspiration in performance. At the age of 14 she began learning guitar and piano, two instruments that became pivotal elements during her beginnings as a singer-songwriter and composer.

In 2014, del Mar attended the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico through the Music Composition Department where she had the opportunity of participating in composing competitions, as well as being part of the Conservatory’s choir, and the Latin-American folk ensemble. It was during this time that she developed her passion for teaching and began to work at various music academies as piano, guitar, and vocal teacher. del Mar cofounded the composers collective for the Composition Department as well as Colectivo Simbiosis. Both collectives aim to produce events and initiatives that  creates a platform for composers and musicians in Puerto Rico to present original musical works while creating a dialogue on  the music in the island. 

 

Ever since her arrival at Berklee College of Music in Spring 2018, Karina del Mar has focused her studies on music production, songwriting, and arranging. Her experiences in Berklee have been very important for her professional growth because of the strong network she's built over the years. In 2019, del Mar helped create TalkingLabz, a production company based in Boston, and is currently working as their Managing Director and producer. By March 2020, she became cofounder and COO of EchoKids, an innovative music education company that uses creativity as its lead approach for mentoring kids ages 0 - 18. Karina Del Mar also runs SexyBabe, an online magazine that promotes, connects, and creates network for upcoming musicians.
